The key 2027 Can-Am Defender announcement is a new second-generation HD10 with an 80 hp Rotax triple-cylinder engine, plus utility-focused XU equipment packages and updated displays on the second-generation lineup. Do not describe the new HD10 as merely an old HD10 with different bodywork, or call the HD11 a newly introduced 2027 engine: BRP identifies the HD11 as a 2026 predecessor in the announcement.
Source and scope: BRP’s August 17, 2026 official 2027 lineup release. This guide separates confirmed announcement details from questions that need a current model-specific build sheet. UTVAUTO has not driven or durability-tested these configurations.
Three changes to verify on a dealer quote
| Announcement | Buyer implication | Verification needed |
|---|---|---|
| HD10 triple-cylinder redesign | The HD10 name spans materially different generations | Model year, engine and full configuration |
| XU utility equipment | Factory accessories may cover work you otherwise equip separately | Included part list and fit to your actual tools |
| Second-generation display updates | Screen and navigation equipment vary by package | Exact screen, connectivity and software requirements |

What the XU package adds
BRP identifies a Headache Rack, Low Bed Wall Extender, LinQ Tool Holders and Trailer Hitch Ball Mount among the factory-installed XU accessories. The release describes availability from base through Lonestar in open and closed configurations, with X mr excluded. Check the actual order rather than assuming every photographed accessory is included.
Make a work-equipment list before valuing the bundle. Confirm tool-holder compatibility, cargo access, securement and whether your equipment fits the configuration. A bed extender or rack changes how cargo is arranged; it does not by itself raise the vehicle’s cargo, towing or total load rating.
The display is trim-dependent
BRP describes a 5-inch color gauge on the second-generation Defender, with Limited, X mr and Lonestar using the 10.25-inch wireless display with embedded BRP GO! navigation and other features. The release also describes remote software updates through Wi-Fi or a hotspot. Verify the exact package and any connectivity conditions before relying on a particular function.
If navigation matters for work away from coverage, have the dealer demonstrate the functions and required setup on the vehicle you are ordering. Do not infer a feature’s offline behavior from the word “wireless,” or assume an older display can receive every new hardware feature through an update.

A carryover-versus-new comparison needs complete identities
A discounted earlier HD10 and a new-generation 2027 HD10 are not necessarily the same mechanical package. Ask for model year, engine specification, seating, cab package and complete model code on both quotes. Compare the operator guides and service requirements as well as accessories.
The 80 hp manufacturer figure does not prove a measured noise, fuel-economy or reliability advantage. BRP describes comfort and powertrain improvements, but a buyer seeking a particular cabin sound level or working behavior should evaluate the exact configuration. This article does not manufacture test results from launch language.
Before ordering
- Confirm actual allocation or stock and the promised handover date in writing.
- Request a complete installed-equipment quote with freight, preparation and applicable fees separated.
- Obtain the exact cargo, total payload and towing limits for that year/trim/market.
- Measure the actual cab, mirrors and tires for garage, trailer and route access.
- Check local servicing, parts availability and the matching owner’s manual.
Use the load worksheet when adding tools and equipment. For the wider utility choice, our Defender versus RANGER guide supplies a separate platform comparison; do not transfer an older article’s specifications into the 2027 build.
