Choose the 2026 Yamaha Wolverine RMAX4 1000 XT-R when four designated seats are a recurring need and its full-length footprint fits your transport and storage. Choose the RMAX2 1000 XT-R when two seats cover your trips and the shorter body is more useful. This is a seating-and-packaging decision before it is an accessory decision.

The comparison is for the U.S. XT-R trims, using Yamaha’s RMAX2 specification page and full-length RMAX4 specification page. It excludes RMAX4 Compact, X2 and X4 850. The full-length RMAX4 and RMAX4 Compact cannot share one dimension column.

What changes with the full-length four-seat vehicle?

2026 XT-R specification RMAX2 1000 Full-length RMAX4 1000
Designated seats 2 4
Overall length 119.3 in. 150.8 in.
Overall width 66.1 in. 66.7 in.
Overall height 77.8 in. 82.7 in.
Wheelbase 86.7 in. 118.1 in.
Published wet weight 1,993 lb 2,381 lb
Stance width 64 in. 64 in.

Yamaha defines wet weight as standard equipment and required fluids, including a full fuel tank, without optional accessories. It is a more complete starting point than dry weight, but still not your fully equipped transport weight.

The extra length needs an actual route into storage

The RMAX4 is 31.5 inches longer and 4.9 inches higher in these published configurations. Measure the garage opening, usable depth and the turn into the space. A vehicle can clear the opening yet leave no room to move around it or position tie-downs on a trailer.

Both pages list a 64-inch stance, but neither overall width is 64 inches. Use the overall-width field and the actual completed vehicle for a physical fit check. Mirrors, tire changes, racks and roof equipment can create additional limits. Our RMAX tire and width guide explains why stance and overall width should not be substituted for each other.

Use the weight difference without overinterpreting it

The wet-weight difference is 388 lb: 2,381 minus 1,993. It matters to transport planning before adding tools, recovery equipment and other accessories. It is not a towing allowance, and it does not tell you which vehicle will feel better on every surface.

Record the actual loaded trailer combination and verify the trailer, axle, tire and tow-vehicle requirements. Passengers do not ride in the UTV during highway trailering; keep the transport calculation distinct from the vehicle’s operating passenger-and-cargo load calculation. Use the transport worksheet for both size and capacity checks.

Try every intended seating position

Ask the seller to demonstrate restraints, entry, handholds and seating adjustments, then check the operator guide’s occupant requirements. Wear normal riding gear during the fit check. Four designated seats do not establish that every intended occupant meets the manual’s size or other conditions.

The extra row is useful only if people can use it properly and your normal cargo still has a secure, approved place. List coolers, luggage, tools and a spare with their real dimensions and mass. Do not infer that adding two seats also doubles total payload or permits a person in the cargo area.

Compare the exact builds

Both XT-R specification pages list 999cc engines and 30 × 10.00R-14 Maxxis Carnivore tires at both ends. Shared labels do not prove that roofs, doors, protection or storage accessories interchange between the different chassis lengths. Ask for exact applications and exclusions.

  • Choose the RMAX2 if two approved seating positions cover the trips and the shorter vehicle solves transport or storage requirements.
  • Choose the full-length RMAX4 if the extra seats solve a regular need and its actual footprint and loading limits pass.
  • Investigate RMAX4 Compact separately if that configuration interests you; replace this table with its exact specifications.
